TCR EUROPE: Report from Paul Ricard

Date: 21-23/08/2020
Track: Paul Ricard

Under difficult conditions due to COVID-19 restrictions, the team decided to race just once this year in Europe and so where better to go than the South of France in August. It was a fantastic weekend with temperatures in the mid 30’s but with little time to practice on different tyres at a circuit Lewis had never visited before, we knew we would be up against it.

QUALIFYING
Team manager David misunderstood the qualifying procedure thinking they had 35 minutes when in fact they only had 20 minutes, with the top 10 going onto a second period of 15 minutes. Saving what would have been our best laps for the last 15 minutes meant that Lewis was down in 21st position.

RACE DAY

Race 1: Lewis had a great start and by lap 3 was up to 14th place. On the next lap we had a tyre delaminate and lewis had to come into the pits to change it making him a lap down, we now had no chance of a result but just to get track time out he went again and put in some good times, with others also experiencing tyre problems we finished 20th.

Race 2: Starting in 20th place Lewis did all he could but with faster cars behind due to the Hyundai having to run on a reduced boost as per BOP, he could only manage 22nd at the finish. A great experience for all concerned and we will be better prepared for our next visit in 2021.
