TCR UK 2021: Report from Brands Hatch | Race 5, 6 & 7

Date: 19-20/06/2021
Track: Brands Hatch

This meeting was the first of the year over two days with a free practice session, qualifying and three races.

FREE PRACTICE
Despite both being penalised with another 10KG of weight based on their success at the last meeting, Bradley carried on where he left off at Castle Combe setting the fastest time, whilst Lewis was back in 5th.

QUALIFYING
Bradley was at his best agin in qualifying, getting pole position by 0.3 seconds with Lewis in 3rd, both were pleased with their performance as was the whole team.

RACE DAY

Race 1: Bradley was beaten off the line by a TCT car and on the next lap as Bradley went past this car it turned into him putting him into the gravel at Paddock hill bend and out of the race. Uncharacteristically Lewis lost places at the start and had a hard fought race managing to finish 4th with the fastest lap his worst result so far.

Race 2: The top 6 started in reverse grid order, putting Lewis in 3rd but Bradley with a DNF at the back of the grid. Lewis didn’t have the best of starts owing to the way Brands Hatch starting grid is laid out but in third place he started to push the two in front of him. Over the next few laps he fought his way through to take the lead and pull out a 5 second gap setting the fastest lap time again.
Bradley came through the pack from the back to finish in a very respectable 5th place setting the second fastest time and picking up valuable Championship points.

Race 3: The grid was based on the second fastest time set in qualifying which meant Bradley was on pole and Lewis was second – Essex & Kent Motorsport locking out the front of the grid.

Bruce Winfield had a blistering start to take the lead with Bradley and Lewis close behind, Bradley pushed Bruce to the limit but being an experienced driver he knew where to position his car to prevent Bradley overtaking, meanwhile Lewis was fighting with his rival Max Hart and slipped down to 4th Place.
These two battles continued throughout the 25 minute race and with only 2 minutes to go Bradley made a brave move down the inside coming out of clearways holding it together as he was pushed towards the pit wall and took the lead. With all this going on Lewis slipped down to 5th but on the final lap 3rd and 4th men had a coming together promoting Lewis to 3rd. A great race as Bradley showed true driving talent and put in the fastest lap.
